A Stitch in Haste

The Supreme Bigot urges other bigots to be even more bigoted in their bigotry:

Pope John Paul on Saturday urged Christians to be committed to seeking unity of their divided Churches but, in a reference to homosexual clergy in the Anglican communion, said new ethical obstacles had surfaced.

“Unfortunately, we are faced with new problems, especially those of an ethical nature, where new divisions which impede a common witness have sprouted,” he said to some 7,000 people inside the basilica.

This was a clear reference to the crisis currently besieging the Anglican communion after the Episcopalian Church in the United States appointed an openly gay bishop in New Hampshire.

Traditionalist Anglicans, particularly the Africans, have denounced the move. They threaten to break with churches that bless same-sex unions and are considering ways to redraw the Anglican world map to escape liberal provinces.

“Problems, especially those of an ethical nature”?!? Feh! The Pope should be more concerned with his (heterosexual) boy-raping employees and less concerned with consenting Anglican adults, whether clerics or laity. Meanwhile, I’m sure the female Roman Catholic priests, monsignors, bishops, archbishops and cardinals agree — all zero of them.

The sad part is that, somehow, this all has to do with Africa of all places. Apparently there are Catholics in Africa (see generally, “missionaries”). And of course there are Anglicans in Africa (see generally, “British Colonial Imperialism”). And being a generally backward continent, they’re apparently not too fond of gays in Africa (well, at least the ones who have yet to die from heterosexually transmitted AIDS).

See the political strategy at work here? Whichever team gets more anti-gay “wins” Africa, as if the 21st Century were nothing more than a giant game of “Risk.”

And somehow Americans are expected to take these homophobic buffoons seriously? I think not.
