Anybody But Bloomberg: "Poor Get Better Health Care Than Rich"
Mayor Bloomberg yesterday set off a firestorm when he claimed that poor New Yorkers receive better health care than the rich.
…
The uproar began when Bloomberg was touting the care provided at the city’s public hospitals. “Medical care in this city is arguably one of the few services you can point to anyplace in the world where the poor get better services than the wealthy,” Bloomberg said. “It really is true,” the mayor continued. “If you get sick, you go to a public hospital.”
…
“Can this guy be any more out of touch?” asked Rep. Anthony Weiner. “Mike Bloomberg may lock up the billionaire vote, but he is showing again that he doesn’t understand the challenges that everyday New Yorkers face.”
Leaving aside the issues of public hospitals, Medicaid and government control of healthcare generally, the real point here is the mindset and intemperance of this buffoon. To hold political office, especially that of Mayor of New York, one must have eloquence. Indeed one must have two kinds of eloquence — what might be called “white collar eloquence” and “blue collar eloquence.”
LaGuardia had the two eloquences. So did Giuliani. So did Ed Koch.
Lindsay has blue collar eloquence but not white collar. Dinkins had white collar eloquence but not blue collar.
Blooperberg isn’t even close with either eloquence. He’s just an ass.
Tick-tock, tick-tock, Mr. (Soon-To-Be-Ex-) Mayor.
