The Liberal Doth Protest Too Much
If you want to see someone in a total state of panic over the possibility of Social Security reform actually occurring, see this post over at Angry Bear that tries to fisk this Cato fact sheet. You can also see my counterfisk in the comments.
Words Angry Bear uses about Cato:
–propaganda
–lies
–pathetic
–fraud
–scam
–silly
–nonsense
(As regular readers of my blog know, the proper usage is, of course, “utter nonsense”).
I think it’s always a good sign when the opposition to your position becomes increasingly shrill. It shows that their standard distortions and misrepresentations are no longer effective and that they’re running out of gobbledygook (another good word Angry Bear might want to add to his list).

My misrepresentations? Excuse me – but the whole point of my post was to show how Cato distorts the real issues.
And your rebuttal? You had no rebuttal.
And your rebuttal? You had no rebuttal.
Like I said — shrill.
PGL, don't worry….I wrote the rebuttal. It's on your site (in comments) and mine.
Cato is right on target. Your economic arguments are incorrect and beyond that you miss some of the critical political parts of the issue.
I appreciate your criticism of Social Security, and agree completely. The Cato sheet you point to suggests private accounts as the solution. I offer another (and would appreciate your critique):
Let people opt out. If they opt out, they forswear all future SS &Medicare benefits, and they no longer pay the FICA deduction from their paycheck. The employer continues to pay the other half that most people don't know about, as long as that's necessary to keep the system solvent.
Whaddya think?
