I received two solicitations in the mail on Saturday from organizations that I have supported in the past and would like to bring to your attention.

The Victims of Communism Memorial Fund is in the final stages of their fund-raising and are up against a December 1st deadline imposed by the U.S. Park Service to raise the final $115,000 they need to fully fund the Memorial in Washington, D.C. (the Fund has already raised over $500,000). The Memorial Fund is receiving no government porkbarrel funding (which by itself is praiseworthy).

The Fund has also released the intended design of the Memorial. They hope to erect a replica of the magnificent and inspirational “Democracy” statute built by the slaughtered students of the Tiananmen Square uprising in 1989.

Given the shameful number of China apologists in this country, I think the Fund made the perfect choice.

Please consider helping the Memorial meet its December 1st deadline.

The Point Foundation, which provides scholarships to gay students who are disowned or cut off by their families, will be hosting a special benefit performance of the play Confessions of a Mormon Boy by Steven Pales at Lincoln Center in Manhattan on Monday, December 5.

Tickets are $275 including pre- and post-performance receptions, $190 of which is tax-deductible. It makes more sense than spending $300 to see Wicked.

The Point Foundation is one of my three favorite charities (the other two being the ASPCA and Lambda Legal). If anyone is interested in seeing the show, feel free to email me — I hate going to these sort of things alone (like Jonathan Rauch, I’m not the “Cocktail Reception” type).
