RoP: A Different Kind of Eminent Domain

A leading representative of the Religion of Peace has proposed a quite peaceful solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict:

Iran’s hard-liner president, who has called for Israel’s destruction, said Thursday that the Jewish state should be moved to Europe if the West wants to make up for the Holocaust.

“Let’s give some land to the Zionists in Europe or in Germany or Austria, so they can have their government there,” [Mahmoud Ahmadinejad] said. “They faced injustice in Europe, so why do the repercussions fall on the Palestinians? Offer a piece of land from Europe, and we will back this decision and will not attack this government.”

“Land for reparations”? That might be a workable plan.

Perhaps we can begin with Iran ceding 444 acres of Downtown Tehran to each of the Americans taken hostage in 1979? Just as a trial balloon to see how their “Reverse Anschluss” proposal would work.

I wonder how the Religion of Peace would respond to that offer.

As much as I'd rather not agree with Iran…

He's got a point – it is almost entirely the fault of British (Western) colonialism and the severe reparations of WWI that led to the creation of the Israeli state as we know it today.

First, it is the fault of anti-Semites that the Zionist movement ended with the creation of Israel. Britian alone has little to do with the success of the Zionist movement.

Second, it's interesting that Iran's leaders have called for the destruction of Israel. All the countries surrounding Israel know that they can't compete militarily with it–Israel will go nuclear in a matter of minutes if Iran were to try to invade it, after all.

There is something to be said for Israel's relative wealth and technological sophistication, as compared to its antagonistic countries. Those countries are all too aware that you can't smite Israel when Israel can destroy you.
