Another Chinese Dog Holocaust

Dog owners in a Chinese city have been ordered to hand over their pets so they can be destroyed.The authorities want to slaughter them as part of an ongoing fight against rabies.
Residents of the Wanzhou district of Chongqing have until March 15 to surrender their animals.

According to the media, there have been three cases of rabies in the area in the past year — one of them fatal.
Remind me again how China is undergoing an “economic miracle”? One would think that such an economy could afford some rabies vaccine.
Three cases of rabies triggers a mass annihilation?
Such is not the thought process of civilized, or sane, leaders.
But it is business as usual in China.
Barbarians.

I'm sick. And angry. And I can't even think straight now.
Now people will be less likely to adopt dogs, meaning there likely will be more strays which likely will increase the incidence of rabies. Good job, guys.
It's sickening. What do you expect from a society that uses the incarcerated as spare parts?
OMG, I can not believe what is going to take place this time next week! I am so upset and feel totally helpless in this. I emailed PETA to find out what their stand was on this matter and am waiting for a reply. This is definitely NOT the way to go, culling innocent house dogs will not control rabies, has the government gone made?! Do they not realize that wild animals are more likely the culrits (sp?)? Oh no, don't tell them that, then they'll have their police going out in to the bush to kill all the Monkey's, Lions and any other animal that lives. Makes me sick!
