It occurred to me that some of my younger readers might not fully appreciate or even understand the current Sidebar Sidetrack.

Welcome to law school.

Hawkins v. McGee, 84 N.H. 114, 146 A. 641 (1929) really is “the first case” in many Contracts casebooks. The idea is to introduce the difference between “expectation damages” (compensating the plaintiff as if the contract had been fully performed) and “reliance damages” (compensating the plaintiff as if the contract had never been entered into).

For Discussion: I know I have several past, present and future actors among my readers. I suspect the first day of acting school may be similar for many people. It certainly would be for me.
