Gay Politics Quote of the Day

“The LGBT community would do well to have Republicans in elected office with [Greg] Camp’s understanding of our needs.”

–Gay City News, which then promptly proceeded to endorse his Democratic opponent, supposedly for his “youthful passion.” Oh, and because he’s openly bisexual (though of the “lives with his girlfriend” variety).

The last thing this city, this state, this nation or this community needs is yet another “passionate” politician. They are the problem, not the solution.

I had no intention whatsoever of voting in this silly special election. I have never, not once, voted in any election other than for (or, more often, “against”) president, senator, governor, representative and mayor (i.e., offices that actually matter).

Yet I can’t help but wonder what an openly pro-gay Republican, even in a pointless makework party machine position like state assemblyman, might be able to achieve, even in the most dysfunctional state GOP apparatus in the nation.

But this is the Upper East Side, realm of limousine liberal politicians such as Carolyn Maloney and Michael Bloomberg, so of course the Democrat (who has suggested in interviews that he considers “green space,” gridlock and garbage more important than gay marriage), will win in a landslide. That is a fait accompli.

I’ll let you know whether I voted or not.*

(Via The Agenda.)

*Note that to me, “voting” means showing up and signing in. I always “vote” in general elections, even if I don’t actually pull any levers. But this is a special election, and I remain ambivalent.
