Long-time readers of this blog know of my affinity for the Point Foundation, which gives generous college scholarships to outstanding gay and transgender college students who have had to endure, first-hand, instances of anti-gay discrimination or other hardship. Many have been disowned by their families and therefore lack not only tuition funds but also the support mechanism necessary for success in the stressful environment of elite schools.
The Point Foundation has just announced their 2008-09 Point Scholars. There are now a total of 90 enrolled Point Scholars and 42 Point Alumni.
As I have done previously, I encourage you to peruse the bios of these impressive and inspiring young people, and then ask yourself how anyone could possibly conclude that they constitute The Others Who Are Ruining America™.
This past school year I had the privilege to mentor one of the Point Scholars. It was a rewarding and humbling experience. So I can assure you, based on personal experience, that donations to the Point Foundation are a wise use of your charitable dollars. Throw a few bucks at it if you can.
Furthermore, as I wrote before: “And if any of the Point Scholars happen to be reading this, I have only two words of advice for you: Start blogging!“
