–A Special Guest Question: Does anyone believe that if John McCain were president and had selected Governor Sarah Palin under the Twenty-fifty Amendment to fill a vacancy in the vice presidency, Congress would have confirmed her?

  1. Is anyone surprised that John Dean has that position when you look at what he's written:

In 2001 he published The Rehnquist Choice: The Untold Story of the Nixon Appointment that Redefined the Supreme Court; in early 2004, Warren G. Harding, followed by Worse Than Watergate: The Secret Presidency of George W. Bush. In 2006, John published Conservatives Without Conscience.

His newest book is Broken Government: How Republican Rule Destroyed the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial Branches.

  2. Some thoughts on the banning of first names on kids jersey's story:

    1. Its surprising that a story is just now being written. I've personally had to deal with this controversy out here in California for the past two years. Then again, a common joke I've always had is that once you read about it in the paper, you know the subject is at least 6 months old.

    2. I'm getting the feeling that this whole problem is becoming sort of an urban myth that is being spread around, simply because I heard those exact words two years ago when my daughter joined t-ball: "What if a stranger reads her name and goes up to her and says 'Hi Becky,' then my daughter might think she knew them."

My response to that was and is: with either my wife, myself or both of us at every game and practice, what opportunity really is there for some sort of crisis to occur? In the 10 feet where she walks from the dugout to the bleachers after the game is over in full view of everyone? And if you're not attending the games and practices, then the least of your problems is what's written on your kid's jersey.

    3. Parents of kids in sports need to get used to the idea of complete strangers screaming out their kids names. It happens every time your child drives in a run, scores a goal, makes a basket, etc. Was it odd the first time some guy my age screamed out cheering for my daughter? Of course. But he did it because she just stopped a shot on goal for her soccer team, of which his daughter was a teammate. If you don't want other people to know/cheer for your child, let them play XBOX all day in the safety of their bedroom.

    4. The "policy" of banning first names is to me the easy way out. I would imagine many parents who so believed in keeping their child's first name off their jersey then had a hard time explaining their reasoning to their child. Now they can simply say, "Well, that's the policy."

    5. It's always amazing how these types of issues turn what seem like normal, rational people into fearful suspicious lemmings.
